So the last few months since my last blog have seen me continually working hard in the gym, going through different phases of training coinciding with my practice and playing schedule.
It’s been a lot of trial and error to see how much I can do and what I need to do in order to get me in the best shape to play tournament golf, practice and train enough to consolidate that. We went through a 4 week phase of monitoring daily the load of practice, training and golf I was playing, how I was feeling after each day, amount of sleep and the level of tiredness felt after all of these amongst other things.
we also managed to get in a very useful biomechanics session at Lincoln Uni, this lasted a few hours but was a great insight to really see how all the work I’ve been doing has enhanced my body movements and also backed up what I’ve been working on in the gym and from a technical point of view too. A massive thank you to Franky who took the session and followed that up with a thorough report.
All of the above has enabled me to really put together a productive practice, playing and training schedule now that enables me to get the absoloutely best out of myself.
I’ve just come back from playing a Jamega Tour event at the Players Club in Bristol which I finished T13th with rounds of 69(-3) and 72(level). For me personally this was a massive step forward, it’s difficult playing tournament golf when you’re not playing regularly and this was only my third event this year spread out over 6 months!! It was especially pleasing to feel comftable in what I was doing and finish off a nice round in the first day after starting with a double!
The second round started and finished in torrential rain with little let up, I again found myself +3 through 4 holes due to a little bad luck on the first and a really poor swing on 4 but again I stayed patient and managed to pick up 4 birdies coming in. In weather like that it’s easy to get down but I really enjoyed the grind! A long day but made worthwhile by finishing in the money.
A special thank you to Alex Wernig who paid for my entry fee this week.
I’d really love to have a run of tournaments now and build on last week and get some momentum going for the rest of the season. For the first time in a long long time I feel like I’m ready to go and play some consistent and good golf.
